Roll up, roll up role model

After sold-out runs at London’s Soho Theatre and the Edinburgh Festival Katherine Ryan comes to Lancaster next month.

Ryan will play the Duke’s Theatre on Thursday, December 12.

The Canadian comic brings her new, critically acclaimed show Glam Role Model as part of a nationwide tour.

In Ryan’s homeland it isn’t unheard of for women to expose their breasts in public.

To her amusement, however, here in the UK, this questionable pastime has a title: ‘glamour modelling’.

Don’t get her wrong: being an ex-Hooters employee, Katherine’s not averse to females making the most of their assets. What does get her goat, however, is not so much what glamour girls do as what they don’t do: speak.

Glam Role Model takes a look at the murky world of the beauty industry, and examines the role of models who provide its bread and butter.

Ryan is a familiar face on British TV, with appearances on BBC 1’s Live At The Apollo and Let’s Dance for Comic Relief, BBC 2’s Mock The Week, QI and Nevermind The Buzzcocks, and as a regular panellist on C4’s 8 Out of 10 Cats.

Katherine Ryan: Glam Role Model is at 53 Degrees on Friday, December 12.

Tickets £12/£10 concs (£1 per transaction fee online). For more information or to book call the box office on 01524 598500 or visit www.dukes-lancaster.org
