Get ready to be dazzled as Astley Park Bonfire and Fireworks is returning with a spectacular display.

Thousands of people are expected to attend the free event when it returns next month.

What is Bonfire Night?

Bonfire Night also known as Guy Fawkes Day also called Bonfire Night, celebrated on November 5, commemorating the failure of the Gunpowder Plot of 1605 – a failed assassination attempt against King James I by a group of English Catholics led by Robert Catesby who sought regime change in England after decades of religious persecution against Catholics.

What time will the bonfire be lit?

The bonfire will be at 7pm with the fireworks display taking place after set to music at 7.30pm.

Will there be any other entertainment?

Community samba drumming band Sambafriq will be setting the rhythm and getting the party started from 6.30pm.

Do I have to pay anything?

Entry is free but donations to the mayor’s chosen charity – St Catherines’ Hospice are welcomed.

Will there be food?

Those attending can fill their bellies with mouth-watering festive treats such as parched peas, German Bratwurst, hotdogs, burgers, Spanish churros and then wash it all down with a delicious mulled hot gin, draught lager, and a range of hot/cold soft drinks.

What date is the event?

The event will take place on Sunday, November 5, in Astley Park, Chorley. The park can be accessed from the main Astley Park gates and the Hallgate entrance.

Where can I park?

You can park outside the park.

Leader of Chorley Council, Councillor Alistair Bradley, said: “We have another spectacular event for you in Chorley.

“Our annual bonfire and fireworks display is always well-received, and we can’t wait to bring it back for another year.

“I encourage everyone to bring all of their family and friends to what we hope to be, the best display yet”.

With animals and wildlife in mind, the fireworks used are reduced noise.
