An award-winning debut novelist from Preston just missed out on the top prize at the Costa Book Awards last night.

Best-selling horror writer Stephen King had praised Andrew Hurley’s debut, The Loney, calling it “an amazing piece of fiction”. But the glowing endorsement by one of the world’s best-selling authors was not enough to see it named 2015 Costa Book of the Year as the title went to Frances Hardinge’s The Lie Tree.
