Great Britain and Ireland’s golfers won the 2015 Walker Cup at Royal Lytham and St Annes, beating the holders, the United States in convincing style.

Leading 7-5 on Saturday, the home team stretched their advantage to 10-6 after winning the Sunday morning singles 3-1.

Ashley Chesters posted the first of the points needed in the afternoon singles when he he beat Open Championsship sixth Jordan Niebrugge 3&1.

Cormac Sharvin added another point for GB and I with a 4&3 victory over Mike McCoy to make it 12-6.

Jimmy Mullen added a further point with a 3&2 win over Denny McCarthy before Paul Dunne halved with Maverick McNealey - that half-point was enough to clinch the Walker Cup triumph with six matches still out on the course.

GB and I had reached the magic 13.5 points required for a tremendous victory.
