Currently touring new album The Sovereign Self, the band will be joined on the bill by Scotland’s finest singer of traditional songs, Alasdair Roberts.

Trembling Bells cite El Greco, Sophocles and Dennis Potter as influences on the LP – not the usual starting points, but then Trembling Bells are not your usual sort of band.

The Sovereign Self is a stunning work, taking its name from a line by Dennis Potter, this is the band’s fifth album, their first since 2012’s The Marble Downs.

Alasdair Roberts, supporting, is considered by many to be Scotland’s finest singer of traditional songs. After three albums with Appendix Out, Roberts recorded his first solo album, The Crook of My Arm.

Also playing are The Horse Loom, a unique marriage of British folk, avant garde and punk, led by virtuoso accoustic guitarist Steve Malley.

Trembling Bells are at the Continental on Wednesday August 12.

Tickets £10 advance, £12 on the door. Online now from SEE Tickets, WeGotTickets & Skiddle, from the venue 01772 499425 or at Action Records 01772 884 772.
