Bus station’s big screen bow

Now the newly-listed building is to make its silver screen debut.

Lancashire film-makers have produced a 10-minute film entitled 56,000, intended to celebrate the architecture and people’s memories of the brutalist structure.

Paul Adams and Andrew Wilson created the film, featuring personal stories about the bus station, which will be shown for the first time on November 28 at the Continental in Preston. Paul said: “People have given their stories, and it is basically a montage of moving stills.”

He said the film was intended to be positive, and said: “We have always been pro-bus station but we decided not to make a film about saving it – we just wanted to show it.”

Filming began in May, and Andy said he was nervous about the debut screening.

“When we set out we were expecting to get grief from people but we’ve had nothing but a positive experience.”

Paul described the project as a “labour of love”.

He said: “We finished filming at the end of September, did the interviews then spent two or three weeks editing it.

“It’s all there, but nobody is getting to see it until the 28th.”

The film is at the Continental in South Meadow Lane at 8pm, and all are welcome to attend the free event.
