The Sunday afternoon concert on November 24 will feature some of the most inventive and uplifting music ever written for wind instruments by Dvorák, Beethoven and Mozart.

The matinee begins with Rondino, an early wind octet by Beethoven, before Dvorák’s Wind Serenade, a lyrical, dance infused work.

The climax of the afternoon, Mozart’s Serenade No.10 for 13 instruments, is regarded as one of the jewels of the classical canon.

In the words of Mozart’s bitter rival Antonio Salieri (in the play Amadeus by Peter Shaffer): “This was a music I’d never heard. Filled with such longing, such unfulfilled longing, it had me trembling.

“It seemed to me that I was hearing the very voice of God.”

The concert is on Sunday November 24 at 14:30 in the King George’s Hall, Blackburn.
