College throws open its doors

More than 250 different attractions are on offer at this year’s Myerscough College Country Fair.

Last year, a record attendance of around 16,000 flocked to the main site at Bilsborrow, near Preston.

This year, there’ll be even more demonstrations, shows and interactive activities from the college’s diverse subject areas, as well as food, drink and live music and entertainment between 10am and 5pm.

Highlights include a packed equestrian programme, motorsport and machinery displays, agricultural shows and falconry demonstrations, photography and floral exhibitions, sports tournaments and children’s activities. Agriculture and countryside zones, both superb landscaped gardens, also always prove popular.

Highlights of Sunday’s event include motorsport and farm machine displays, a sheep show, a bicycle stunt team, more falconry, the Parade of Hounds, archery, laser clay and airgun shooting and Lancashire Young Farmers’ Tug of War.

For horse lovers, there is a fantastic range of events at the state of the art Equestrian Arena, while animal enthusiasts will enjoy tours of the Animal Academy, children’s pets and a range of veterinary events.

There will also be a Made in Lancashire Food Fayre, which will display local produce for people to purchase, sample and eat, along with a Farmers’ Market Food Stall and a range of other catering, refreshment and bar outlets. The sport team will put on many different activities throughout the day, while there will also be a special Army Iron-Man Challenge. There is also an Adventure Zone for children.

Chief executive and principal of the college Ann Turner said: “We hope the Open Day and Country Fair this year will be our best yet.

“It’s great to see the crowds coming to see us and happy smiling faces everywhere all over campus.

“It is a full day’s event and even then it is a challenge to get round the whole campus.”
