Richard Lomax’s six-track offering, {mk iii}, released through DogFace Records on December 9, is described as “raw, unfiltered emotion, presented with wit and worldly wisdom” by Listen With Monger.

The EP is according to its artist “a six-track study in love, death, hope and failure; sometimes
urgent, sometimes dreamlike”, and billed as a raw and powerful debut.

Two tracks, Windmills and Wag The Wonderbitch, feature the delicate and ethereal chime of the omnichord, the electronic autoharp favoured by Brian Eno.

There are also contributions from Manchester guitarist Cleg of Louis Barabbas & The Bedlam Six and drummer Phill Howley, who has worked with Liz Green and Graham Massey.

Lomax’s influences on his latest release include David Bowie, The Bees, the Beta Band, Nick Cave, Frank Black and Arthur Lee.

And the new songs are set to be showcased on November 24 at Manchester’s Odd Bar and December 6 at Salford’s Black Lion, the official launch date.

Lomax said: “There’s a bit of alt-folk, a bit of surf, a bit of psych.

“There’s omnichord and upright bass on some of it and most of the drums are constructed out of biscuit tins, cardboard boxes, and metal heat sinks.”

His previous band, psych-folk pop outfit Johnny5thWheel&thecowards, bowed out after five years with a trilogy of farewell gigs in September and October at their spiritual home – the first marking a re-branded re-opening of Preston music venue The Ferret.
