Sunday tea-time after a day enjoying the sunshine in the garden and who wants to be stuck in the kitchen cooking?

The barbeque had been lit only a couple of days before so we didn’t fancy any more sausages. Therefore, we were left with no choice but to dig out the most recent takeaway menu to land on our door mat.

That turned out to be Village Bite in Clayton Brook.

Offering the usual pizzas, kebabs, burgers and fried chicken, we also noticed they offer three meal deals, each only £11 and offering different combinations of dishes, including desserts.

We chose the Family Meal Deal consisting of any nine inch pizza, a nine inch garlic bread, any quarter pound burger with chips, a donner kebab and two cans of Pepsi.

Phew! Could we possibly manage all that between us?

We didn’t have to wait long to find out. Having phoned through our order we were told up to 40 minutes for delivery, but it arrived within 25, suitably hot or chilled where necessary.

Enough to feed three people with a couple of slices of garlic bread on the side, the portions weren’t massive but certainly enough. Everything was fresh and tasty and the pizza had a lovely rustic flavour to it with roughly chopped fresh
onions and chillies – none of that strangely neat topping which you often get with a takeaway pizza.

My chicken burger had plenty of flavour and came with a salad garnish in a soft, sesame seed bun with chips on the side. Opposite, meanwhile, the kebab was still hot with plenty of meat, a good dollop of sauce and a fresh salad garnish, and was demolished in two minutes flat!

Our only complaint was that the garlic bread was a little dry but the extensive menu also offers various tasty toppings which we will probably opt for next time. Also on offer is a vast pizza selection, including a ‘create your own’ plus wraps, naan breads, spicy waffles and samosas.

With the quality of the food and a saving of nearly a fiver had we ordered our food individually, the Family Meal Deal was fantastic value. And they didn’t even charge us for delivery even though we are outside their free delivery area.
