Knights, steam and dogs

The event, which runs over the Fathers’ Day weekend, will thrill visitors with more than 600 exhibitors and a line-up of spectacular shows expected to draw record numbers of families to the 30-acre site.

Organiser Craig Whittingham, whose steam rally enthusiast dad Paul launched Scorton Steam, said: “We have worked to make this year’s anniversary event extra special and so gave a lot of thought as to which local charity to support.

“We could think of no worthier organisation than Rosemere and were delighted when the foundation accepted our invitation to become our 2014 partner.”

The Rosemere Cancer Foundation is based at the region’s specialist cancer centre at the Royal Preston Hospital.

Scorton Steam’s main arena attraction this year is the UK’s leading jousting display team, The Knights of the Damned.

It is led by professional stuntman Justin Pearson, whose many film credits include Pirates of the Caribbean, Batman, Mamma Mia! and the Harry Potter movies.

Visitors can expect high speed action from the skilful mounted knights, galloping horses, stunts, falls and awesome weapons.

Other highlights include a sheepdog demonstration with top handler and star of One Man and His Dog Thomas Longton.

With more than 30 years’ experience of training sheepdogs, he will entertain visitors with both sheep and duck herding.

There will also be a Ferret Roadshow and Ferret Racing and Young Farmers’ Tug of War, as well as eight categories of vehicles for the enthusiast to admire, including steam, commercials and custom, military, classic, motorcycles, tractors, static engines and models and crafts. The event will also host thrilling fairground rides, close up action from the North West Lawnmower Racing Association, a flight simulator, bungee trampolines, mini quad bikes track to razz about on and electric car racing, an assault course of giant inflatables, artisan craft demonstrations and delicious food stalls.

The show stays open to the public on Saturday night, with live music performances from Captain’s Crew, playing a range of country and western, folk and Irish music.

There will also be a DJ in the beer tent for ticket holders and exhibitors.

Specially lit up Showmans’ engines and a display of Goldwing motorcycles will add to the atmosphere. Many visitors take advantage of the onsite camping and make a whole weekend of it – the £70 camping fee includes free entry to the event on both days.

Scorton Steam takes place from 9am on June 14/15 at Woodacre Farm, Gubberford Lane, Scorton.

Tickets: £9for adults, £6 for 10-16yr olds and OAPs with under-10s admitted for free.
