Rick’s Never Gonna Guild You Up at Preston’s Guild Hall

Days after the announcement that Bob Geldof and former Band Aid partner Midge Ure will headline at Preston’s Guild Hall, fellow 80s star Rick Astley is also set to appear.

Rick will perform favourites such as Never Gonna Give You Up as he makes his debut in the venue on May 30, as well as some of his new material that has been worked on since he was asked to come back to the home of his chart triumphs to make an album for what is now SonyBMG.

Rick said: “I’m so removed from 1987, I can look back on it myself and say ‘Wasn’t that a bit of fun?’ I’m getting another crack of the whip in a very different way.

“It feels great to be doing stuff I’m enjoying, and I don’t feel that I’ve got to prove anything.”

Richard Simkin, head of operations for Preston Guild Hall ltd, said: “We pledged to ensure that we would enhance the offering at the Guild Hall, and we have some really exciting plans in place.

“We are looking forward to announcing more in the coming weeks.”

Rick said: “I’d been doing some film music, and this idea of me doing some gigs last year came about.

“I really enjoyed it. I wasn’t there to promote anything, I was just there to sing a bunch of old songs I remember as a kid, that my mum and dad and my sister used to play or sing around the house.

“Some people at BMG came to the gigs and said ‘Why don’t you make us a record?’

Susan Burns, of Guild Promotions Ltd, said: “We are delighted to be able to announce Rick. He made such an impact on a lot of people in the late 80s, but since his return he has appealed to all ages, and will no doubt charm the crowds here in Preston in May.”
