Ripping it up as doom metal comes to the Conti

Now the Chicago band is back and renunited with 
Liverpool’s thunderous trio, 
Conan, who played with them, for a show at Preston’s New 
Continental on Wednesday 24 April.

And opening up the show, in the South Meadow Lane pub’s Arts Space, will be furiously heavy Leeds outfit, Humanfly.

Chicago doom metal four piece Bongripper have put out six self-released records since they first formed in 2005 and have gained a massive reputation for their intense and often deafeningly-loud live performances.

Their first album, The Great Barrier Reef, grew out of a simple jam session, which planted the seeds of what became 
almost 80 solid minutes of 
music in an incredible one-track doom experimentation.

Only a very few copies were issued by the band and they have since refused all requests to reissue it.

Their second full length album, the 10-track Hippie Killer, was released in 2007 and won them new fans in the stoner rock genre. It also saw them nominated for the stoner-sludge Album of the Year award by Metalstorm.net.

Their most successful record to date, Satan Worshipping Doom, came out in 2010, released on vinyl as a double LP.

Its original pressing sold out in under two weeks with a 
repressing selling out just as fast, leading Roadburn.com to name it as one of their Top 10 Albums of 2010.

Liverpool trio Conan are thunderous but incredibly tight with an iron-grip on their the uber-synchronised chord changes and tempo-shifts.

They create a wall of sound from just bass, drums and guitar with two male vocalists spewing the intense lyric through the dense musicianship.

Leeds band Humanfly have won a reputation as great handlers of a solid riff, creating epic but melodic tunes with immense heaviness but subtle textures. Doors open at 9pm.
