Strutting Their Stuff on The Biggest Stage

New rock band The Struts drop into Preston’s Ferret as part of a long summer tour promoting their eagerly awaited first album Everybody Wants The Struts. The Derby four piece are a fresh faced approach to an old fashioned kind of music, with influences as diverse as Queen and The Killers, with a front man born for the stage.

The band, signed to Virgin EMI, are an exciting prospect, having amassed hundreds of thousands of Youtube views for their hits Could Have Been Me and Kiss This, as well as their covers of contemporary pop songs such as Get Lucky by Daft Punk and Lorde’s Royals. The gig, next Wednesday 4th June, is one date in a tour taking in well established venues such as Liverpool’s Cavern, The Cluny in Newcastle and The Camden Rocks Festival, and is an high-profile capture for the little venue.

Joining them on an impressive bill are the area’s best punt at a breakthrough act, Then Thickens, the latest project by singer-songwriter Jon-Lee Martin, formerly of Kong. The Chorley band’s first album, Death Cap at Anglezarke, is receiving universal acclaim, and creating big waves in the British music industry, tracks having been played on the Introducing sections on BBC Radio One and BBC Radio Lancashire, and, most impressively of all – at least for their Mums’, they say – being played as background music on an episode of Coronation Street.

Then Thickens drummer Charlie Hartley – fresh from a tour supporting Nine Black Alps – told us the reaction to their record has been humbling.

Completing the line up are Preston’s Little Icarus, a young melodic indie pop band, already being marked as one to watch.

Just days after they take to the stage at The Ferret, The Struts are due to play to a crowd of 80,000 at the Stade de France, Paris, supporting legends The Rolling Stones, so you’re urged to see them now, as you’ll never get to see them in a small, intimate venue again.

Tickets for the gig are priced at £5 – available through www.thestruts.com – or £6 on the door.
