Their cast of five will present this year’s family show, the children’s favourite Danny, the Champion of the World at 4pm on August 28.

Julian Wilde, organiser of the outdoor season, feels it will be a fitting climax to three months of successful open air events.

“We have enjoyed the Lytham Festival, Club Day, the Kite Festival, a 1940s weekend, Moliere in the Lowther Gardens and I am sure this production will be a real treat for families at the end of the school holidays,” he said.

“After the disappointment of the curtailments at the Lytham Festival I hope we are due for a scorcher!”

Illyria will come to Lytham Hall for their penultimate show in a 95-day tour which has taken them to all parts of England, Wales and Scotland, including a week’s residency at the famous Minack theatre on the cliffs of Cornwall.

Julian is expecting the House Full signs to be up on the 28th.

“Roald Dahl plays draw a huge audience to Lytham Hall and Oliver Gray’s productions always provide an appealing mixture of physical and verbal comedy, music and dramatic tension,” he explained.

“I think that the audience may be surprised that there is actually a degree of sadness too in the Danny story.

“It will be a fitting finale to some top class events in the town.”

Gates will be open at 2pm for picnickers, with the show finishing at 6pm.

A special area will be reserved for children to sit on the grass in front of the stage.
