With £1,000 worth of tickets sold at the gate for Sense and Sensibility on a bright and warm evening, the attendance figure reached 460.

Chapterhouse’s company manager Katy Helps, who played the lead role of Elinor, praised the reactions of an attentive Lancashire audience.

“They laughed in all the places we hoped for and many others, too. We could not have wished for a more perceptive audience in a more glorious setting and we all felt welcomed before and during the play. It was a memorable start to our summer tour.”

Julian Wilde, organiser of the four-play open air season, is already looking forward to the performance of Pirates of Penzance by Illyria on Sunday, July 6.
