Women in the North West will spend nine hours and £66 searching for the perfect Christmas party outfit

With the nation starting to prepare for the festive season, women in the North West are on the hunt for a Christmas party outfit perfect for festivities from the office shindig to a New Year’s Eve blowout. A study released today, reveals just what it takes for women to find the ultimate Christmas party ensemble.

In the North West, 69 per cent of women will be buying a new outfit this year, specifically to wear to Christmas get-togethers throughout December. The most popular occasion for something new is the office party (65 per cent), followed by Christmas Day (52 per cent), New Year’s Eve (48 per cent) and friends and family birthday celebrations (21 per cent). 14 per cent women even set aside a new outfit for a Boxing Day night out.

The search started in November for the majority of women, however an eager 24 per cent admitted to looking as early as October. Over nine hours searching, women trawl, on average, through eight different websites and shops. The majority will buy three options before deciding on the final outfit that will cost roughly £66.

Why do women put so much effort into searching for a new outfit? 28 per cent won’t re-wear a Christmas party dress for fear of being seen in the same outfit twice and 11 per cent are afraid of being tagged in photos on social media.
