Customers queue 90 minutes in the rain for a haircut in Bamber Bridge

Allan Antonio’s overgrown customers queued in the street for up to 90 minutes in the rain to get their first haircut in almost four months on Super Saturday.

And the barber who has shops in Bamber Bridge and Whittle-le-Woods paid tribute to their patience as he and his staff worked their scissors off on their first day of business for 15 weeks.

“For us it was like just before Christmas, it was that busy,” said Allan. “They were queuing down the street in the rain. They were so good.”

Allan’s Barbers has had to bring in new hygiene measures to make sure everyone - customers and staff - are kept safe now hairdressers are allowed to re-open.

“It takes a bit longer to do a cut because we have to clean everything in between customers.

"We have disposable gowns and gloves which are thrown away after each customer. All the surfaces have to be wiped down.

"But it was just amazing to be back open again after such a long time closed.

“Everyone was in great spirits. I think they were all desperate to get a haircut. We were limited to numbers in the shop, so many had to queue up outside in the rain.

"A few turned round and went home, but most stuck it out.”
