FOOD HYGIENE RATINGS 2018: Chorley celebrates its food hygiene highs
The quality of Chorley's food remains at a high, with only one food seller having a zero star hygiene rating.
Yu Hing Takeaway in Kimberley Street, Coppull, was given a zero star food hygiene rating in November last year, with inspectors telling owners the management of food safety needs ‘urgent improvement’.

Mrs Yang, who works at Yu Hing, said: “They have been back since saying everything is good but it’s just the score now. They will be back in three months, maybe half a year, to reinspect.
“This has never happened to us before. I hope next time they come we will go back up.”
In total for the borough, only 34 businesses were given a one star inspection rating, which means owners must majorly improvement their hygiene standards.
It marked a decrease on the 36 told to improve in the Post’s report last year.
Last year’s only zero star rated outlet, Panshi in Town Road, Croston, has turned itself around, going from lowest rating to a maximum of five stars.
Inspectors found it to be ‘good’ for hygienic food handling, cleanliness and condition of facilities and building, and management of food safety.
The revealing data comes from Chorley Council, who inspect all food sellers in the borough to make sure standards are at a high level.
Out of the 768 inspected businesses, 95 per cent achieved the desired rating of three to five stars – maintaining the high level set by businesses last year.
Deputy Chief Executive at Chorley Council, Chris Sinnott, said: “Food hygiene ratings are important to businesses and customers in the borough as it helps drive standards of hygiene in food premises which improves businesses and attracts and reassures customers.
“Chorley Council has been operating the National Food Hygiene Rating Scheme since May 2011 and routinely monitors approximately 700 food premises that are within the scheme.
“Council inspectors visit food premises and give a rating between zero and five based on three key elements including; how hygienically the food is handled, the condition of the building and the management.
“We have some fantastic food premises in Chorley and the council is very proud of the high standard of the food hygiene ratings.
“Premises with lower ratings are aware that they need to improve and it’s in their best interests to do so which is why the council offers support for them to progress, including advisory visits and coaching and if necessary, enforcement action can be taken.”
Calista Cafe at Euxton Park Golf Centre received a one star rating in February but has since tackled the issues picked up on, with inspectors already coming back for a check on the updates.
A spokesman said: “We have never had a low rating before, it’s always been high.
“We had a lot of maintenance work that needed doing; food hygiene was not really the problem.
“She [the inspector] said if she was re-rating us she should give five stars now.”
Costcutter in Harpers Lane have a one star rating but store manager Debbie is awaiting the results of their latest inspection which took place a few weeks ago.
She said: “There wasn’t that much we actually failed on I was a bit miffed to be honest. Lots of niggly things.
“The inspector said it had gone up, we’re just waiting now. I’m hoping for four stars.”
Bargain Booze in Pall Mall also received one star.
Store manager Susan Bury said: “For us it was the hot water system in the bathroom. It needed replacing which we have done. We had it for 15 years and had never had a problem previously.
“We also needed a hand towel in the bathroom which was because it was being washed and hadn’t been replaced.
“It’s been something we’re really disappointed about; we pride ourselves on cleanliness.”
Susan said the inspector had since returned to check the fixes and they are now awaiting a re-inspection to improve their score.
A spokesman for one star rated Daisy Tandoori in Steeley Lane said that inspectors have since returned to the premises and are happy with everything.
