Former Chorley pub site set for 12 new one-bedroom apartments as plans are submitted

Plans for the land where the Brookes Arms stood have been submitted to Chorley Council.

The pub - on the corner of Eaves Lane and Brooke Street - was demolished in 2014 and the land has been undeveloped since then.

The planning application is for 12, one-bedroom apartments - plus day room and communal - with parking.

The proposed scheme is within a block of three stories. The main part of the building will be directly on the corner of Eaves Lane, where it merges with Brooke Street and the roundabout with Cowling Brow. A single storey would be located on the rear on the side of the Eaves Lane.

A planning statement supporting the application states: “The assessment shows that there will likely be an increase of 31% of one person households over the age of 65 and 4.2% increase in one person households under the age of 65 in Chorley over the period of 2018 to 2036.

“One way of achieving this is to have a mix on large development sites another is to allow windfall sites such as this to come forward,”

It adds: “The proposal represents the optimum use of the site, without overdeveloping it, and provides for a feature building on a sensitive corner location that will provide a focal point in this location.”
