Major road closed after bin lorry overturns

A major road in Chorley has been closed this afternoon (Thursday, July 5) due to an overturned bin lorry.

Lancashire Road Police took to social media at 4:28pm to warn motorists to avoid New Lane in Eccleston due to the obstruction in the road.

Images posted by the road police show the windscreen of the lorry badly cracked while it lays on its side.

A police spokesman said: "Recovery is on scene and there is a diversion via Lydiate Lane.

"The crew reported minor injuries."

PC Holder of Chorley Police added: "The road closure is due to last for around an hour, please avoid the area and use alternative routes for the time being."
