Open air kitchen in Chorley shortlisted for BBC's Food and Farming Awards 2018

An outdoor food kitchen in Chorley is a finalist in the BBC's Food and Farming Awards 2018.

Bees Country Kitchen, based in Chorley market, was shortlisted under the category of Best Street Food and Takeaway.

The family team Mike and Sarah Bryan and their daughter Liberty have been serving up home-made dishes to people in the market town for just three years.

“We are just really pleased to get down to the top three out of 400 nominations for a little cabin on Chorley Market,” said Sarah.

“We want to be part of putting Chorley on the foodie map. The products in this town are world class but people don’t seem to know that.”

As well as rustling up their hot meals, Bees Country Kitchen also supply a selection of make at home kits with an emphasis on fresh local and seasonal produce to create tasty affordable food with a healthy twist.

Although Bees is still fairly new in town it has made an impact and is very much part of the furniture in Chorley. The Bryans served up dishes of hot food when open air play Under The Market Roof came to Chorley in Autumn last year.

On Christmas Day in 2017 Bees donated meals for a two-course dinner at St Laurence’s Church.

On match days they serve up a special scotch egg for fans of Chorley FC, the Magpies, The special treat consists of a free-range egg encrusted with black pudding and sausage meat, all locally sourced.

It also opens up for the annual music festival Chorley Live.

The award ceremony takes place in Bristol on June 13 and will feature on BBC Radio 4.
