Starbucks announces first drive-throughs to reopen in Lancashire

Coffee lovers can now enjoy their favourite cuppa once more as Starbucks announces which of its Lancashire stores have reopened.

The chain has today (May 14) opened the doors to 150 coffee shops across Britain, with 22 of them in the North West, including drive-throughs in Preston, Chorley and Burnley.

Starbucks closed all of its UK sites in March, after the Government-mandated lockdown was introduced, but announced it would open around 15% of its UK stores in the first phase of its reopening plans on May 11.

To ensure the safety and well-being of everyone in the stores, measures have been put in place which not only align with government guidance, but also follow lessons from other countries such as China, where 90 per cent of Starbucks stores are now open.

Alex Rayner, General Manager, Starbucks UK, “We are proud to be back serving our communities with the phased reopening of our stores, starting with Drive-Thru and a handful of stores for takeaway only.

"Although our stores will look and feel a bit different with social distancing measures, plexi glass screens and upweighted cleaning procedures in place, the role coffee plays in creating connection and community hasn’t changed. Now, more than ever, having something familiar is incredibly important."

All stores will be operating with reduced opening hours and safety measures include:

- Ongoing and regular hand washing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds

- Two-metre social distancing throughout the store

- Upweighted cleaning with regular sanitisation of high touch point areas such as countertops

- Plexi screens at pay points

- Contactless payment only

- All beverages served in paper cups

Nearly all stores are serving the full drinks menu, with everything from lattes to cappuccinos, iced coffees and teas to frappuccinos.

With the NHS still very much on the frontline, Starbucks stores across Britain will also be offering any tall drink of their choice for free.
