A public consultation on the plans to rebuild Tarleton Academy near Preston, has been launched.

Local residents are invited to find out more and comment on the plans as part of an online public consultation which runs until Friday, April 2.

The Endeavour Learning Trust has released more detailed plans on the proposals for the academy, a mixed comprehensive school for 11 - 16 year olds. The plans are to receive funding as part of the Government’s new decade long School Rebuilding Programme. The Academy will be amongst the first 50 in the country to receive funding for a re-build project.

It is proposed that the new school building, set further back on the existing school site, will eventually replace existing, outdated teaching blocks located off Hesketh Lane. The existing sports hall and Ribble building will be retained and it is hoped access for school buses and car parking facilities will be improved, with congestion eased on Hesketh Lane at school pick-up and drop-off times. A new swimming pool will be built on the Academy site.

It is intended that a planning application will be submitted to West Lancashire Borough Council later in the spring. If approved, work is due to start on site in September. The intention is for the new school building to open in September 2023.

Mrs Lesley Gwinnett, Executive Headteacher at Tarleton Academy, said: “We are delighted to be able to share our plans at last for the new school building. We have been working closely with the Department for Education for some time now to ensure that the plans provide the highest quality facilities for our students and staff.”

She continued: “The school has been part of the community since 1961 and as such our neighbours are very important to us. We have been working with an experienced design team to

create a new building that will provide the facilities we require while keeping the impact of the new building to a minimum. We believe that the new school will be an improvement for everyone in the village and surrounding areas.”
