Blackburn College has taken urgent action after receiving confirmation two pupils and a teacher who study and work at the college have tested positive for coronavirus.

The college has confirmed the cases are not linked, but students and staff who have been in direct contact with the teacher and two pupils have been asked to work from home and self-isolate for 14 days.

Dr Fazal Dad, Principal and Chief Executive of Blackburn College, said: "The college has received confirmation that two current students and a staff member have tested positive for the Covid-19 virus.

"We will continue to consult with Public Health England as the pandemic takes its course, and ensure we are doing everything we can as a community to keep everyone safe.

"Finally, the safety of our staff and students is paramount."

Teaching for further education students at the college started on Monday (September 7), with higher education students returning next Monday (September 14).

The college, which was closed for much of last term in order to limit the spread of the virus, has introduced new social distancing and health and safety measures since reopening.
