• Bamber Bridge Leisure Centre;

Leyland Leisure Centre, one of four facilities in South Ribble set to reopen on April 12

“Covid-19 has meant that many people have lost their fitness routines and staying indoors more often than usual has had a real effect on people’s mental health and wellbeing – so it’s great that centres can now re-open safely.”

SRBC officially took back management of the centres on April 1, with all leisure centre staff transferring to the authority.

Coun Titherington said: “While we officially took over management of the centres on April 1, behind the scenes we have been working incredibly hard over the past couple of months to make sure we can ensure a smooth hand over and to make the customer experience as seamless as possible.

“We’ve also been hard at work getting the centres ready for members when they arrive back. We’ve made some initial changes, but all this is phase one of a wider refurbishment plan for the centres over the next 12-18 months.”

Each centre has been given a thorough deep-clean prior to opening, while essential maintenance and redecoration has also taken place.
