It’s safe to say that the face of Preston has changed somewhat over the decades...
And so what better way to take a trip down memory lane than to flick through a few historic pictures of Preston back in the 60s to see what the face of the city looked like some 60 years ago...
Still fancy some more retro? Check out these other recent pieces…

'Duchess' February 1961 Preston Dock In March 1935 this locomotive was purchased by the Preston Corporation. Its works number was D8, it later gained the name 'Duchess' and was still in operation during 1960, and was noted withdrawn as late as the winter of 1968. It would be scrapped during 1969. A large number of redundant warping beams can be seen stacked behind the loco, no doubt destined to Wards scrap metals which is directly behind the photographer. A number of Tony Gillett's hitherto unpublished photographs of Preston's railway scene are due to appear in a new book by Robert Gregson. Tony was a fireman at Lostock Hall MPD and a neighbor of mine when I lived in the Savick area of Preston. Photo: Courtesy of Tony Gillett Photo: PDA
