Complaints about damage from parking on verges

Visitors to the sports pitches in Buckshaw Village are parking on grass verges, rucking up the lawn.

With the car park full to the brim and spilling over during match fixtures on Saturdays, multiple motorists are pulling up on the side of the road, mounting the pavement.

In many places the grass is completely worn away and there are large patches of mud coming through.

Conservative county councillor Mark Perks, who represents Chorley North, said: “It’s horrendous. The car park is not adequate.

“The main problem appears to be on Saturdays when teams turn up for one match and then other teams show up for a following match.

“Some cars park completely on the grass verge.”

Simon Pearson property manager at RMG, the company that manages the site, assured the Guardian that the service charge, which is currently £150 for the estate, will not be contributing to any amendments or alteration works for parking on Buckshaw Village except for management and maintenance or upkeep of the current Estate areas.

He said: “The intention from RMG is to gravel this area, to preserve the area in the interim, and whilst not encouraging parking, this will help the area from becoming anymore damaged.

“We cannot install a removable post or knee high fencing to prevent parking in this area because of piping under the ground. We consulted the builders on this and this will not be allowed. By installing a fence on the right where the cars are currently using as an overspill, this will again in our opinion, only push the problem further onto the highway.

“We have been talking to the chief executive at Chorley Council, Gary Hall about this issue along with similar parking issues at the nearby Unity Place car park.

“We feel that additional parking is required at both the sports pitches and community centre and soon.”
