Documents submitted to the South Ribble planning committee say the canopies on either side of the bar’s front door will provide cover for 27.4 square metres of an outdoor seating area which is already used by customers.

A report by a planning consultant says: “The site has been controversial in the past, however that controversy has primarily been with regard to the relationship of the bar to the residential properties in Queensway.”

The consultant says the enclosure of the outside area “would go further and enclose the area off from residents in Queensway and provide an even less intrusive environment from any perceived issues.

Each canopy is retractable, so that the walls can be concertinaed back to open the floor area at times of warm weather and close in times of less clement weather.”
