JR’s Chicago Hot Dogs, Preston

Everyone else is enjoying the sunshine (or as it turned out) avoiding the rain.

But there’s talk of long weekends, pub beer gardens, and none of that ‘Sunday night feeling’. So when you work weekends you have to try and find the glory in even the smallest things, the golden nugget in the day.

So when it was suggested the boss and I do a takeaway review over the weekend things didn’t seem so bad after all.

The trouble we had was finding something we wanted to eat at Sunday lunchtime.

It’s fair to say we both love our food and are the ones in the office fighting over the last doughnut, having had too many already.

But Indians, Chinese and even the chippy didn’t appeal.

A quick look on good old Google and with the help of Trip Advisor we settled on JR’s Chicago Hot Dogs in Preston.

I set off from the office with a rough idea of where I was heading. So I parked at Winckley Square and walked along Fishergate. This charming hot dog shop is in Victoria Buildings, opposite Primark and Debenhams. As I made my way towards it a couple walked by, each tucking into a hot dog – they looked delicious and so I knew I was close.

I arrived at the shop and inside friends were sitting around enjoying a lunch with a difference and a helpful man was behind the counter.

He told me the shop had been there about six months and there’s already big plans for the future, with talk of a bigger menu and a selection of pizzas and homemade cakes.

As well as hot dogs they also sell baguettes, wraps and jacket potatoes.

I opted for a classic hot dog with onions (£2.50) and the boss had a hot dog with jalapeños, onions and mustard (£3).

Racing against the clock, I drove back to our Fulwood office, hoping our treats were still warm.

Thankfully they were and mine was delicious.

A lovely soft roll with tasty onions and a meaty hot dog, in fact, it’s making my mouth water just thinking about it.

Meanwhile, I’m reliably informed the chilli hot dog when down a treat.

We would have liked some fries to go with it, which I’m told will be on offer soon.

It looks like it is early days for this place but I would certainly visit again. Ideal to grab and go home, eat while shopping or even sit in.

And the cakes on the counter looked yummy!
