Appeal for road bike collision

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after pedestrian sustained serious head injuries after being involved in a collision with a cyclist yesterday, Monday November 11.

The incident took place just before 6pm when the 27 year old cyclist, who is from Clayton Brook, was riding his mountain bike on the pavement on the A49 Wigan Road close to Leyland Golf Club when he collided with a pedestrian causing him to fall backwards and bang his head on road surface.

The pedestrian, a 54-year-old-man from Clayton le Woods sustained a head injury and was initially taken via ambulance to Chorley hospital before being transferred to Royal Preston Hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

Sergeant Mick Young from the Force Road Policing Team said: “I would appeal to anybody that witnessed this collision to come forward and speak with police by calling 101.
