Tiny Lucy Jane Adam made a speedy arrival into the world – in her dad’s Ford Mondeo.
Mum Jenny Adam gave birth to the 7lb 12oz tot in the front passenger seat of the car outside the entrance to the maternity unit at Chorley and South Ribble Hospital.
Proud parents Jenny and Greg Adam, from Cypress Close in Clayton-le-Woods, are delighted with the new arrival after coming to terms with her unorthodox delivery on Saturday morning.
When Jenny realised Lucy was on her way the couple, who also have a daughter Beth, two, rushed to the hospital where they had planned a water birth. But when Jenny’s waters broke en route she realised the baby’s arrival was imminent.
Jenny, 32, a special needs teacher at Ladywood school in Bolton, said: “I had a fast labour with Beth so knew it would be quick but this was less than three hours in total.
“We’ve been watching a lot of the Olympics and Paralympics but I hadn’t expected Lucy to be a sprinter already!”
Greg, 32, a company director based at Buckshaw Village, said: “When we arrived at the hospital I rushed inside to get a midwife then when I returned the head was out. When the midwife arrived she basically caught Lucy!”
Greg and Jenny, both former students at Balshaws High School in Leyland, took the new addition home just hours later, where all are doing well.
But Greg added: “Now all I need is a new car!”
