The repair costs have totalled just short of £100,000, which included a Mercedes which was hit just before the shop.

Now, after a major refurbishment, the popular bakery will open its doors once again at 9am on Thursday, August 7.

Baker Simon Moulton, said: “It’s been hard work being closed, people think it’s great with all the time off you have but it isn’t.

“You don’t have any money coming in and with things going on it’s quite a stressful and worrying time.

“But now we are all looking forward to the reopening, things are looking good, we won’t be going over the top on Thursday but we’ll have bits of bunting around the shop and outside.”

Mr Moulton and his wife Lesley run the bakery, open Tuesday to Saturday, with the help of their children.

They took it over 11 years ago when Lesley’s mother, who had run it for 30 years, retired.

Mr Moulton is confident for the future and is pleased with the reaction and support the shop has received.

He added: “I want to encourage everybody to come and visit us.

“We still have the same quality of products coming out of the shop and I want to thank everybody for their patience as it’s been a long process.

“There has been excitement and plenty of positive comments in the village, everybody is welcoming us back and there is a real buzz.”

Shaun Patmore, of Bretherton, was handed a 17 month driving ban after pleading guilty to drink driving.

He was also handed a £100 fine as well as a £20 victim surcharge and £85 in costs.
