Police were alerted after reports that three males had left the vehicle in suspicious circumstances at around 10.40pm.

The response team attended to search for the males who had disappeared.

However a search of the vehicle found it to contain cannabis.

The vehicle, a blue Ford Fiesta, was seized by police.

PC Rik Nicol, of Chorley Police, thanked the caller who originally reported the incident and urged people to always ring the police on 101 if they spotted anything suspicious.

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: “We got a call initially at about 10.40pm, a report of suspicious circumstances.

“A car had been abandoned on a country lane.

“Three males were seen leaving towards Preston Road.

“The car was located on Chorley Lane.

“We forced entry and seized cannabis.”

The spokesperson added: “Later that evening we located the driver and passengers.

“A 25-year-old male has been spoken to and dealt with by a community resolution order. He was one of the passengers.”

Community resolution orders can be issued by police.

They can involve restorative justice techniques, such as the offender apologising to the victim, paying compensation or repairing any damage caused.

Unlike a caution, a community resolution does not lead to a criminal record.
