An area of Chorley’s Astley Park was taped off by police after a woman ‘cried rape.’
Police officers were seen guarding the area, close to the war memorial, until late into the afternoon on Sunday.
It came after a woman reported she had been raped in the park earlier in the day.
However, officers established that she had in fact consented to a sexual act with a male, which she later admitted.
Sgt Kevin Mountain, from Chorley Neighbourhood Police, said: “A female had gone into Astley Park and had sexual contact with a male.
“She later cried rape before admitting that she had made it up and had consented to the sexual act.
“We had taped the area off as we wanted to preserve the scene as we believed we were dealing with a very serious crime.
“Our officers were there from 9.30am until around 4pm.
“We are now looking into taking action against the woman for wasting police time.”
