Chorley has a new deputy mayor.

Coun David Dickinson has stepped down from the role due to ill health.

The Brindle and Hoghton councillor said he was “very disappointed” but he was not able to continue.

He will carry on as a ward councillor but said he does not intend to stand for re-election in May next year.

Stepping into the role of deputy mayor is Coun Doreen Dickinson, who is no relation.

She has represented the Lostock ward since 2000 and will become Mayor of Chorley for the municipal year 2016-2017.

Her consort will be her son, David Vickers.
