Child airlifted to hospital after 'nasty' crash between car and woman with pram in Chorley

A man was arrested after a woman pushing a toddler in a pram was hit by a car in Chorley.

A Mercedes A180 was travelling along Lyons Lane South when it collided with a woman who was pushing a two-year-old child in a pram at around 3.30pm on Friday (November 6).

The girl was taken to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Liverpool, via air ambulance for treatment, but police say her injuries are not thought to be serious and she has since been discharged.

The woman, aged in her 30s, was taken to Royal Preston Hospital by ambulance with a serious head injury. She is in a serious condition but is "stable and slowly improving."

A 24-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drug-driving. He has since been released under investigation.

Police are now appealing for information and are asking anybody who saw the incident, or saw either the car or the pedestrian in the moments before, to get in touch straight away.

.Sgt Chris Evans, of Lancashire Police's TacOps Team, said: "This was a nasty incident which has left a woman with serious injuries, while her young daughter also required hospital treatment.

"We are working hard to piece together exactly what occurred and would like to hear from anybody who witnessed the collision and has not yet been spoken to by officers.

"Whatever information you have, please let us know."
