County church opens for special paryers for bomb attack victims

A Chorley church has been opened for special prayers for the victims of the Manchester bomb attack.

The reverend Peter Smith, of St Peter’s Church, Harpers Lane, Chorley, posted this message on the church Facebook page this morning: “No apologies for posting this. Please share As Vicar here at St Peter’s, please read and share in the Chorley community.

“Due to the terrible events in Manchester last night, our usual Tuesday service of Morning Prayer will continue in the chapel BUT the main church will be open for anyone who wishes to just come in and take time to reflect, be with someone or simply pray silently for the victims and their families.

“St Peter’s Church will be open from 9am to 10am as a mark of solidarity and respect.

“Staff and parents of our day school, you are in our thoughts especially today as we reassure our children. For Manchester.”

Flags in the town flew at half mast.

Both the Chorley Town Hall and the Chorley Police Station Union flags were lowered as a mark of respect.

Chorley Council posted on its Facebook page: “Our thoughts are with the victims and the families of those who have been affected by the events in Manchester last night and we are flying the flag at half-mast as a mark of respect.

Chorley Police’s Facebook page messaged: “Our thoughts are with all of those affected by last night’s appalling events in Manchester.
