'Lucky to be alive': Shocking image released of victim's injuries after 'horrific' Lancashire assault

The victim, a 37-year-old man, was found with serious injuries near Ferndale, Birch Green, at around 7.30am on Sunday (April 4).

Police said he was making his way to work when he was attacked near Firbeck.

He was taken to Aintree Hospital where he remains. His condition has been described as "serious".

An investigation has been launched and enquiries are continuing to identify the offenders.

Det Sgt Diane Higham, of Skelmersdale CID, said: “This was a horrific assault which has left a man in a very serious condition in hospital.

“The level of violence used is frankly obscene and the victim is lucky to be alive. We hope this image, which shows the severity of the injuries inflicted, will prompt members of the community to come forward.

"I would also appeal to anyone who may have information which could help us piece together what has happened and to help identify the offenders to contact us.”

Extra police patrols have been put in place in the area and will continue over the next few days.

Anyone with information has been urged to contact police by calling 101, quoting log number 0290 of April 4.
