A man walking home from a night out was assaulted and robbed in Clayton-le-Woods.

The 38-year-old came across a group of people on Sheep Hill Lane at around 12.30am on Sunday and as he tried to walk past, one of them hit him across the face.

He fell to the floor and suffered an injury to his right eye and nose. He was then dragged up and a man demanded his mobile phone and wallet.

He refused to hand them over, so the man searched his pockets and took his keys and cigarettes.

DC Edward Wenham, from South CID, said: “This was an unprovoked attack on a man who was just making his way home after a night out.

“I urge anyone who has any information about this incident to get in contact

with us.”

The offender was a white male, around 5ft 4ins tall, wearing a hooded jumper, dark tracksuit trousers and light trainers.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
