A safe containing almost £1,000 has been stolen from Croston Sports Club.

Police said burglars used a wheelie bin to take the safe after stealing it from the Westhead Road club.

The burglary happened between midnight and 1.30am on Tuesday, July 28.

It is thought the offenders got into the premises by forcing open a rear door by the changing rooms, and took a safe containing about £950 cash.

They are then believed to have left through a side door onto the patio overlooking the cricket pitch.

Police said it is thought they used a wheelie bin from a neighbouring property to transport the safe to a car waiting by the Londis store further down the road.

PC Nick Steenbergen of Chorley Police said: “I would urge anyone in the area who saw any suspicious activity around the time of the incident to get in touch.

“Anyone with information should contact us on 101 quoting log number 0637 of July 28.”
