Two men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was hospitalised following a 'shotgun' attack in Skelmersdale.

Concerned residents called 999 after hearing a gunshot in the Ennerdale area of Skelmersdale at around 9.30pm on Sunday (September 6).

Emergency crews rushed to the scene where they discovered a man, aged in his 20s, at a property with a wound to his leg - believed to have been caused by a shotgun.

The man was taken to hospital for treatment but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Police have now confirmed two Skelmersdale men, aged 20 and 36, have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. They remain in custody for questioning.

DCI Zoe Russo, of Lancashire’s Force Major Investigation Team, said: "We appreciate this will have caused concern in the community but we would like to reassure people that our investigation is very much ongoing.

"Although we have arrested two people today, we are continuing to ask anybody with information about the incident to get in touch with us as soon as possible. Perhaps you were in the area and saw all or part of what happened, or perhaps you have heard something and believe you know who may be responsible.
