The stars are aligning for Chorley student Lucy King.
She has been named student of the year at Blackburn College’s annual Further Education Star Awards.
Recognised for her excellent leadership and time management skills, her tutors said the 18-year-old demonstrated maturity beyond her years and is a much valued member of the hospitality department.
Lucy completed a Level 3 Catering and Hospitality Diploma, while also studying for an A-Level in business studies, and she excelled in both.
She said: “I was delighted to have been selected for the award, it really was a lovely surprise.
“My tutors have been so supportive, especially in helping me study for an A-level alongside my catering and hospitality diploma.
“My dream is to one day own my own restaurant and Blackburn College has helped me so much already.
“Both courses provided me with the skills and knowledge to help progress towards a future within the catering and hospitality industry.”
Lucy has since progressed on to the Level 3 professional cookery course, which offers students first hand work experience within Blackburn College’s own restaurant, Scholars.
This summer saw record results for the college, which caters for students across the Chorley area.
Principal and chief executive Dr Thomas Moore said the credit should go to all the hardworking students, along with the dedicated staff.
He added: “I would like to congratulate all our students who were successful and thank the staff for their dedication, commitment and professionalism in helping students achieve their full potential.”
