Family fitness event in memory of Daniel
A bereaved mum gathered family and friends for a charity Zumbathon held in memory of her teenage son on the anniversary of his death.
Lorraine and Eric Nicholls from Chorley organised the fun two hour fitness event raising more than £1,500 for the charity Aching Arms, who support families who have suffered a miscarriage or still birth.
The couple have been inspired to raise money in memory of their son Daniel, known as Danny, who collapsed and died unexpectedly at home in The Spinney, off Preston Road, Chorley, in December 2012, aged 16
Eric and Lorraine said: “Although three years have passed since we lost our son, there has not been a day we haven’t thought about him and wept for him, he is missed by all his family and friends, his loss was devastating, however we try to raise money in his name for charity on his birthday and his anniversary, it’s our way of helping others and keeping his memory alive.”
The Zumbathon raised £1,521. The total amount the family have collected for various charities in tribute to Danny is £6.227.58.
Lorraine added: “We would like to thank everybody for all their support at this and all the previous fund raising events, a special thank you must go to Sarah Walton, Zumbathon instructor, for giving up her time on a Sunday morning to take the event.
“Sarah makes a really fun session. She makes everybody welcome and I would encourage anybody of any level of fitness to go along to one of the sessions and give it a go.”
Sarah runs Zumbathon sessions at Southlands School on Monday and Wednesday’s at 6.30 pm and at Holy Cross School on Tuesday’s at 7.30 pm.
