And 26 weeks pregnant mum of two Liz Stobart believes they had a close escape as the couple had planned to put the two children in the car while they packed.

As the four slept in their home on Pall Mall, Chorley, a 28-year-old woman from the Coppull area smashed into the couple’s Vauxhall Vectra.

The woman was breathalysed and then arrested by police after she was found to be double the legal driving limit.

And Liz, 23, who lives with 25-year-old boyfriend Adam Bossons, her four-year-old daughter and her 11-month-old son says it has ruined their week.

“It was my son who woke up shrieking first and we rushed over to the window to see what was going on,” Liz said. “We could see our car had been smashed into and had been moved half way down the road.”

“I had to look twice because I couldn’t believe it at first,” Adam said. “She must have been driving quite fast because it’s only a 30mph road and the car had been pushed down the road.

“When we went outside and the woman didn’t seem that drunk she was just acting how anyone in a crash would - a bit shocked and very apologetic. Although we did think it was very odd that she didn’t have any shoes on.”

The family were due to set off for their annual family holiday to Cornwall at 2.30am but the crash happened at 2am.

“The kids could’ve been into the car while we packed and the crash would’ve been on the side of my daughter,” Liz said. “We’ve had to cancel our holiday because we’ve had to pay for a hire car and can’t afford to go anymore.

“The wheel has been completely smashed into the car and the stereo has even come out because of the force of the crash.”

And Adam says his weekend has been a nightmare since the accident in the early hours of Saturday morning.

“We’ve had to cancel the family holiday, my car’s been written off and now we’ve had real trouble sorting the insurance because the woman has been arrested,” he said.

“We’re a few hundred quid down at the moment as well and all because someone didn’t want to pay for a taxi home after a night out.”

Police confirmed there were no injuries caused by the accident although the woman’s vehicle was also written off.

The woman will now appear at court in the next couple of weeks, police say.
