Firefighters in Preston send rescue boat out to swollen River Ribble
Preston firefighters found themselves in an unusual role last night when their primary concern wasn't a raging fire - it was raging water.
The fire service's rescue boat was called out twice to incidents relating to the swollen River Ribble, said to be fast-flowing due to high winds and torrential rain.
A spokesman said: "In the event, we weren't needed but we do ask people to urgently heed the weather warnings and stay away from large areas of water where possible."
