Garage boss grew cannabis

David Turner said he started using cannabis heavily after his father died and spent about £150 a week on the drug.

Turner, 23, of The Close, Kirkham, who runs a garage at Brock, near Garstang, pleaded guilty to cannabis production.

He was bailed for pre-sentence reports with all options including custody to be considered by Blackpool magistrates. Don Green, prosecuting, said police went with Turner to a flat in Station Road, Wesham on May 9.

Twenty cannabis plants were found growing in the bedroom.

The prosecutor said: “He said the cannabis was for himself.

“He estimated the cannabis in the flat was worth £12,000.”

Peter Cave, defending, said his client, who had no previous convictions, had never fully recovered from his father’s death from cancer.

Turner said he grew his own because buying cannabis was expensive and he did not want to fund dealers and was now trying to stop using it.
