Gardeners’ World presenter Carol Klein and garden designer and television presenter Joe Swift will carry out gardening demonstrations and take part in a question and answer session, at the event in Astley Park.

The duo hosted the BBC’s coverage of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show last week and were selected by popular demand after the council asked people who they would like to see at this year’s show.

Councillor Alistair Bradley, leader of Chorley Council, said: “We’re delighted to have two prestigious names from the horticultural world taking part in the show and it will be an opportunity for people to meet them both.

“The celebrities were a big draw last year so we took the opportunity to see who people would like to see when asking for feedback on last year’s show.

“Both Carol and Joe were the most popular suggestions and I’m delighted they’re both able to attend the show.

“I enjoy doing a bit of gardening myself and I always have questions I’d like to ask of an expert so if you find yourself with a burning question make sure you come along and put it to one of our celebrities.”

Carol has exhibited at many shows herself with gold medals at Chelsea, Hampton Court and Westminster and has also written gardening books and is a columnist for Garden News.

Joe is also a regular presenter and designer on Gardeners’ World and has had a host of broadcast roles and has designed many gardens on TV, including one for Comic Relief.

“It is great profile for Chorley and the flower show to have two people who are well-known off the television and it was standing room only in the Gardening Theatre last year,” said Councillor Bradley.

The council-run event, will take place on July 30-31.
