A grand day out
The ladies of Withnell Fold WI joined deputy speaker of the House of Commons and Chorley MP Lindsay Hoyle for a whistle stop tour in London and a visit to Westminster.
Sixteen ladies made the trip to the capital for the grand day out, their busy itinerary including four venues, six meals and several cups of tea over 36 hours.
Group spokesperson Dawn Threlfall said: “After we arrived at our London hotel rooms six of our group set off to the Victoria and Albert Museum where we saw the exhibition ‘Fashion through the Centuries’ (plus the Henry VIII Tapestry room)
“Next, the Lyric Theatre in Shaftsbury Avenue to see a production of Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’.
“The following morning, in the lobby of the Houses of Parliament, we were meet by The RT Hon Lindsay Hoyle MP who gave us a personal tour of the Palace of Westminster.
“His knowledge of both houses is immense, we found out one or two facts the official tour guides could not.
“It is obvious that he is very proud of the history of both the House of Parliament/House of Commons and his home town of Chorley.
“We ate our lunch in one of the parks en route to our last destination, Buckingham Palace.”
Withnell Folds WI meet every third Wednesday of the month at The Chapel Hall in Withnell Folds.
