Residents in the north west side of the village pay their council tax to South Ribble Council, but their bins are collected by Chorley Council.

Chorley Council has agreed to charge for garden waste collections from May 1, whereas South Ribble Council will not bring in charges until at least April 2018. Last week the two councils agreed those in the South Ribble area will not have to pay for collections for the coming year.

Councillor Alistair Bradley, leader of Chorley Council, added: “All residents in South Ribble, for whose properties we empty the bins, will continue to receive fortnightly garden waste collections.

“As South Ribble Borough Council is yet to introduce a charge for garden waste collections the cost will be met through an agreement we have with our neighbouring authority and those residents will not have to pay the £30 annual charge for the coming year. It’s simpler to have all the properties we collect waste from to have the same bins, which is why we’ve decided to roll the new grey bins out to the South Ribble properties too.

“The South Ribble residents do not have to do anything to register for the service, they will automatically be signed up and they will receive a bin and information on the changes before May 1.”

South Ribble residents will automatically be signed up and they will receive a bin before May 1. The authority will be writing to affected residents to explain the situation.

“We’ve been talking to Chorley Council to agree the details of waste collection and a letter will be going out to residents in the next few days with full information

“The letter will also explain how people can get in touch if they need help or advice about their waste collection.”
